Development status and problems analysis of LED street lamp technology in China

Various countries actively promote the implementation of energy-saving and emission reduction projects, especially China's LED street lamps because of huge business opportunities and attention by LED street lamp manufacturers. Street lamp is an important part of urban lighting. High-pressure sodium lamp is often used in traditional street lamp. The low light efficiency of high-pressure sodium lamp results in huge waste of energy. Therefore, it is very important to develop new type of high-efficiency, energy-saving, long-life, high color index, environmental protection street lamp for urban lighting energy-saving.

The characteristics of today's LED street lamps are:

High-power LED street lamps differ from conventional high-voltage sodium lamps in that they are powered by low-voltage direct current (LDC), high-efficiency white light diodes made of GaN-based power blue LEDs and yellow phosphors, and light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are based on semiconductor PN junctions with weak power. Under a certain positive bias voltage and injection current, the holes injected into the P region and the electrons injected into the N region emit photons by radiation recombination after they diffuse into the active region, and the electric energy is directly converted into light energy.

As the light source of street lamp, LED has many advantages compared with traditional street light source.

1, the LED street lamp itself has the directivity of light, and there is no light diffusing to ensure light efficiency.

2. The LED street lamp has a unique secondary optical design, which illuminates the LED street lamp to the required illumination area, that is, the road surface, thus further improving the illumination efficiency and achieving the purpose of energy saving.

3. The light efficiency of LED has reached 100lm/W, and there is much room for development. The theoretical value can reach 250lm/W. The luminous efficiency of high-pressure sodium lamp increases with the increase of power. Therefore, the overall luminous efficiency of LED street lamp is stronger than that of high-pressure sodium lamp.

4. LED street lamp's light color rendering is higher than high-pressure sodium lamp's, high-pressure sodium lamp's color rendering index is only about 23, but LED street lamp's color rendering index can reach more than 75, from the visual and psychological point of view, to achieve the same brightness, LED street lamp's illumination can be reduced by more than 20% on average than high-pressure sodium lamp's (refer to British road lighting standard); At the level of mesopic vision, the human eye is easier to distinguish things in high-temperature environment than in low-temperature environment, avoiding some dangerous conditions.

5. LED street lamp light fade small, a year light fade less than 3%, using 10 years still meet the requirements of road use illumination, therefore, LED street lamp in the use of power design can be lower than high-pressure sodium lamp;

6. LED streetlights can be automatically dimmed to meet the lighting requirements at different times, reduce power as much as possible and save electricity.

7. LED is a low-voltage DC device, driving a single LED voltage as a safe voltage, so it is a safer power than the use of high-voltage power supply, especially for public places. The characteristics of DC make LED especially suitable for combination with solar energy and wind power.

8. Each unit of LED has only a very small grain size, so it can be fabricated into various shapes of devices, and suitable for variable, shock-prone environment;

9, long life: theoretical life can be used for more than 50 thousand hours.

10, LED can switch frequently without worrying about its damage.

11. Easy installation: directly install the LED street lamp holder on the lamppost to replace the original sodium lamp holder.
